If you want to use XMC modules with your cPCI system cPCIBXMC3U32 is the choice for you. cPCIBXMC3U32 combines features you need with simplicity and speed. With the 3U model one XMC can be installed. High quality 100 MHz reference clock supplied to Bridge and XMC position. Option for Spread Spectrum or fixed clock operation [header]. Support for GPIO, EEPROM, JTAG, Global Address, and Briidge Power good LED.

J1 on the cPCI bus supports the lower 32 bit implementation of the PCI bus. The bridge is PCI 3.0 compliant with a PCI 32/33 up to 32/66 interface. The bridge is 5V tolerant allowing use in 3.3V and 5V PCI systems. cPCIBXMC3U32 is not keyed to allow installation into 3.3 or 5V cPCI defined slots.

J2 is not used for the PCI bus on this device, and can be used for rear IO if the motherboard supports this option. Four options are available. Standard with Bezel IO only, -RIO with J2 installed and Jn4 installed for PMC style rear IO, -XMC for J2 and Jn6 plus Jn4 for PMC and XMC rear IO, and -XIOexc for J2 and Jn6(only) for XMC connector rear IO.

Miscellaneous features: Four GPIO bits are available on a header. Header for write protection of EEPROM. EEPROM is not requried for operation and can be programmed for custom settings.

VPWR selection with header and options for fixed operation. Selection of 12V and 5V. VPWR planes are designed to handle the full load - 8A+. Please note: the 12V source is the single pin on cPCI connector. For higher current applications 5V is recommended.

cPCIBXMC3U32 has a mounting position suitable for the addition of a fan should one be needed. Zero Slot fans can be added to provide forced air cooling without added to the installed height. Higher velocith fans can be added on the rear as well. The cutout can act as a passive port for low power dissipative XMC devices.

Conversion

Power Requirement
3.3V, +5V, +12V, -12V current determined by XMC installed. Bridge utilizes 3.3V and 1.0V derived from 5V rail. Planes used to distribute power from cPCI to XMC connectors. 5V and 3.3V are supported with LC filtering.
DIP switch
An 8 position switch is available to allow for configuration of the global address for the installed XMC.
LED´s
1.0V LED iluminated when 1.0V is within tolerance.

Conversion
The PCI to PCIe Bridge design featured in cPCIBXMC3U32 allows use of your XMC in a cPCI based system. The bridge is PCI 3.0 and PCIe Gen 1 allowing any standard transaction to be converted in either direction. Tested with the Dynamic Engineering XMC-Parallel-TTL-GPIO design using Target Read, Target Write, DMA read and DMA write, plus interrupts.
Price
System level cost is best when reasonably priced reliable hardware is used and NRE minimized. With cPCIBXMC3U32, an XMC can be utilized in a cPCI system. Ease of Use

XMC Specification Compatibility
cPCIBXMC3U32 is XMC compliant per the VITA 42 specification. All Dynamic Engineering XMC Modules are compatible with cPCIBXMC3U32. All other XMC Modules which are compliant with the VITA specification can be expected to work.
cPCI Compatibility
cPCIBXMC3U32 is a PCI compliant device. cPCIBXMC3U32 can be expected to work in any cPCI compliant backplane. Rear IO modules will need to be installed into backplane positions with RIO supported [not 64 bit PCI]. ESD strip is incorporated into the design. EMC gasket

  • -FAN( ) Need additional cooling? Order cPCIBXMC3U32-FAN( ) for a pre-installed 12V 5.2CFM fan to maximize cooling and functionality of your card. The fan has been tested with high wattage PrPMC devices. Valid Fan options include: standard and Rz for low profile fans with fan direction toward XMC or pulling air from the XMC [R]. An additional option is to use standard height fans with more LFM. 8 CFM fans are available as rear mount only (add -FANR to PN for this option)
  • -RIO cPCIBXMC3U32 standard model with J2 and Jn4 installed for PMC style IO
  • -XIO cPCIBXMC3U32 standard model with J2, Jn4, and Jn6 installed for both XMC and PMC style IO
