Standard Cables
Dynamic Engineering offers a number of standardized cable types. Most part numbers include a length and units field to allow customization of the length without creating a new part number. Dynamic Engineering believes in providing a complete solution. Interconnecting with your system is a key part of the puzzle. In addition to cables, Dynamic Engineering offers breakout adapers of various types. For example, the Triax adaper to support IP-1553. Many of the cables and adapters were created based on client request.

SpaceWire
Initially developed to support our own testing requirements this cable line has grown to 32 published types incorporating both type A and type AL. Various configurations to support node to node, node to bulkhead, cable to cable, various plating options and more. The standard cross-over [node to node] version is stocked in several lengths. Other lengths or models built to order. Rapid response with this product.

Ribbon
Ribbon cable assemblies are available in many widths. Dynamic Engineering has offerings for 50 and 64 conductor types and offers custom versions with alternate widths. Cables have strain relief. We recommend using with ejector type headers for the locking mechanism and ease of extraction. Cables are built to length. Available in standard and differential [twisted pair].
Ribbon Cable 50 conductor Frequently used with Industry Pack modules and carriers. See also

Ribbon Cable 64 conductor Compatible with DIN style connectors [2 of 3 rows]. See also
DINterm64 for a screw terminal breakout.
SCSI, VHDCI
SCSI and VHDCI connectors are on many Dynamic Engineering designs including PMCs and XMCs. These cables are resold to allow one stop shopping for your system. Stocked in 3, 6, 9 Ft lengths with options for mounting.
SCSI Cable Frequently used in embedded systems. See also

Components & Techniques
Cables are constructed out of component parts. Different component types require different techniques for proper installation and test.
Test
Dynamic Engineering uses a combination of hipot and direct use testing based on client requirements. Hipot is short for High Potential Test. Also known as Dielectric Withstand Test. Our unit uses adapters to interface both ends of the cable to the tester. The tester checks each end point against the rest and can report a diagram of the results. When programmed the tester can report the status of Opens, Shorts, and insulation issues. In addition, some cable types warant a live test against the hardware to make sure live signals will pass properly.
Contacts
Terminations at the end points can be soldered, crimped, press fit, and screwed for connection to the cabling. The contacts can be directly mounted to the housing or through a removable insert. For example, the ever popular DB series has variations for removable contacts [usually these snap in place and can be removed with special tools], fixed contacts which are usually soldered or IDC. The removable contacts are usually crimped. Dynamic Engineering has a variety of handle sets and inserts to provide proper crimping of many contacts.
Wire & Fiber
Individual wires or Fibers are frequently assembled to make a cable. Sometimes mixed sizes, shielding requirements, or custom breakouts make discrete wiring the correct choice to build your cable. Wires are specified based on a variety of factors including current capability, insulation rating, materials, type of contact planned for use, etc. For example, usually a stranded wire is selected when working with crimp style contacts. Additional choices include shielding, cable covering, labeling etc.
Cable
Frequently the base cable is already available to use in creating the completed cable with connectors installed. Ribbon cable, twisted pair, multi-conductor off-the-shelf cabling can be used to make a majority of client requested cables. For example we use a 4 pair [twisted] with individual shields plus an overall shield for our SpaceWire cabling.
BackShell
BackShells can be simple clamp on types to more complex housings with separate inserts for the contacts. The simple clamp on types are meant to provide protection to the contact to cable joints plus strain relief. The Housing insert combinations allow for flexibility - combining all sorts of different contacts within the same housing. Used for industrial inter chassis cables with combined signaling. Frequently a combination or power, control, sensors etc. are combined. Fiber and wiring can be mixed. Can be good for EMI as the backshell portion is frequently metal and the larger size allows for the use of glands for strain relief. Military circular connector and backshells can have the same flexibility.
Cable Adapters to convert between types
Sometimes it is better to use a PCB based interface to change from one cable type to another. Several reasons include: compexity of the cable, ease of reproduction, active components are required for translation, changing impedance. Dynamic Engineering has several in our inventory and is interested in making one for you.
1553-Ribbon-Triax
This adapter was designed to support connection of triax cable to IP-1553. The adapter converts between ribbon cable and 4 triax connectors plus has headers for port strapping.
