PMC2mPCI - adapter to convert (mini-PCI) mPCI type III to PMC
PMC2mPCI Description
Install wireless and other mPCI devices into PMC environments. PMC2mPCI adapts the PMC form factor to mini-PCI type III. PMC2mPCI installs into a standard PMC position - 32 bit PCI bus connectors, standard power and ground, standard standoffs and blank bezel.
Once mounted the mPCI card is installed into the connector on the rear of the PMC. The connector position allows taller components on the installed mPCI device and ease of cabling to internal (to the chassis) destinations. Having the mPCI connector on the top side also allows the adapter to be installed into any PMC position. With the connector on the traditional component side the mPCI card might interfere with components installed on the carrier.
The PCI bus is routed from the PMC connectors (Pn1 and Pn2) to the mini-PCI connector (J1). The routing is impedance controlled, matched length and has 10 ohm resistors in series for the AD lines plus diode protection for undervoltage on the control lines. The approach has been used successfully on many of our passive adapter designs.
Bulk and decoupling capacitors are provided on the power rails. 5V, 3.3V and 3.3Vaux are supported by mPCI. Mini-planes supply the 3.3V and 5V. Full ground plane. Planes designed for 1A per pin and placed to support power distribution and impedance control.
